All groups are coached by US Sailing certified instructors and assisted by camp counselors and junior counselors. All age groups sail each day and have swim time as well as camp crafts and games. Each day also includes lessons appropriate for each learning level. Campers are encouraged to participate in each level for multiple sessions within one season, or over a period of years.
Our youngest and smallest campers will take the helm for the first time in the Opti fleet, learning the basics of sailing safety and maneuvers in pairs on board their boats. Campers will learn basic boating safety, steering and control, capsize recovery, rigging and team work.
Beginning sailors ages 9 and up as well as Opti 1 graduates will increase their skill level at the helm of an Opti sailboat. Campers are encouraged to single-hand after mastering sailing in pairs. Campers will learn basic boating safety, steering and control, capsize recovery, rigging, team work and single-handed sailing.
Sailors ages 11 and up will explore the waters on leisure sunfish boats, one of the world’s most popular day sailing boats. Starting off in pairs to increase confidence and get practice with a friend on board, campers are encouraged to try single-handing the boat by the end of the week. Sunfish campers spend most of their time on the water throughout the week with both morning and afternoon sailing sessions and a group raft-up.

Fun And Safety — ACA Camps Set the Standard
Nashville Sail Camp has earned ACA-Accredited® Camp status! This is verification from the American Camp Association® that our camp completed a thorough (up to 290 standards) review of its operation — from staff qualifications and training to emergency management, which are recognized by courts of law and government regulators as the standards of the camp industry. Nashville Sail Camp recognizes that ACA camps set the standard for the industry. For us, it is a regular, independent health and safety audit of camp operations. For parents, the ACA-accredited camp sign symbolizes excellence and our accountability and ongoing commitment to the children we serve.
American Camp Association® collaborates with experts from the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Red Cross, and other youth-serving agencies to assure that current practices at the camp reflect the most up-to-date, research-based standards in camp operation. Camps and ACA form a partnership that promotes summers of growth and fun in an environment committed to safety.
ACA helps accredited camps provide:
- Healthy, developmentally appropriate activities and learning experiences
- Discovery through experiential education
- Caring, competent role models
