Leadership Academy is offering paid internships/staff positions this summer! We employ young people who want to gain 21st-century skills to propel them forward in their college career and lifetime career following. Internships/staff positions include 40 hours of paid training in child development, problem-solving, behavior management, group dynamics, collaboration, team building and more.

Our summer staff get nights and weekends off, free staff shirt, free camp shirt, free snacks and drinks, and best of all, the most wonderful people to work with who will make friends for a lifetime. These are paid internships/staff positions with starting wages at $424 a week and climbing from there if you have any experience working with children. This is seasonal summer camp work, you must love children and the outdoors.

Our summer camps are located at Warner Park, Bells Bend and Beaman Parks and Hamilton Creek Marina. Summer interns/staff  will have the opportunity to work at Camp at Warner ParkCamp Bells Bend Beaman, Nashville Sail Camp, Teen Leadership Adventure, and Mountain Bike Camp!

Leadership Academy seeks a year-round Day Camp Director. The Camp Director will play a central role in all aspects of camp, including business operations, parent communication, camper registration, staff recruitment, training, and supervision, program planning, and more. Successful candidates will be personable, hard-working, self-starting, organized, and have strong relationship and communication skills.  The director must be a team player that is ready to jump in wherever needed to deliver excellent programs.

This year-round position is mostly remote work, September-April (15-35 hours/week), and must be on-site in Nashville, TN for twelve weeks, May 24-August 13.

Hourly wage is $16-21/hour depending on qualifications, with overtime pay at a time and a half. A desire to build a career in summer camp is preferred.

At Leadership Academy, our Camp Counselors facilitate a camp program that connects children with nature, fosters an attitude of conservation and a sense of belonging and friendship that keeps our campers coming back year after year.

With direct supervision from the Camp Director, Camp Counselors will be responsible for providing programming and a safe environment for a group of 8-12 campers. They will provide leadership and supervision to the campers as well as follow camp rules and risk management procedures to keep campers safe.

Our Camp Counselors have a reputation for being kind, caring, and personable. We take time to make each camper feel a sense of belonging at our camp and in the outdoors.

Wages paid bi-weekly and calculated by the hour starting $7.70/hour, plus time& half for overtime. Most staff work 10 hours of overtime a week. This works out to $423.50/week or $4,234 for the summer season.

At Teen Leadership Adventure, we aim to equip those who want to be leaders in their communities with tools, ideas, and skills to impact the world around them. Under the direction of the Camp Director, the Program Leader will be directly responsible for providing supervision and a safe environment for a group of 6-8 teen leaders.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Lead teen leaders through their daily schedule
  • Be a role model of leadership skills
  • Facilitate mentor-mentee relationships with teen leaders and camp counselors
  • Support, encourage, and coach teen leaders in the program to demonstrate their skills
  • Develop specific program attributes to meet the needs of the teen leaders, including outdoor skills, public speaking, experience working with younger campers, service projects, and more
  • Oversee the daily operation of the summer day camp including program, camper and staff supervision, and customer service.
  • Design, deliver and evaluate a camp program that connects children with nature, fosters an attitude of conservation, and ensures their delivery in a safe and quality manner.
  • Maintain positive and professional relationships with program participants, family members, and staff; Ensure high-quality customer service for parents and campers.

Starting $11.50/hour

  • Under the direction of the lead instructor, the counselor will be directly responsible for providing supervision and a safe environment for a group of 8-14 campers.
  • Must be comfortable on a mountain bike, comfortable teaching and guiding children on the bicycles as needed.
  • Provide leadership and supervision to the campers, demonstrating safe riding skills
  • Follow camp rules and risk management procedures to keep campers safe.
  • Counselors lead by example to promote a connection with nature and the sport of mountain biking

  • Counselor $8/hour
  • Instructor $10/hour

Our instructors must have US Sailing Certifications, CPR, First Aid, and state valid Boater’s License.

Instructors develop and deliver sailing instruction, lesson plans, supervision, and leadership for a group of 10-15 campers and 1-2 staff members to create a safe, fun, and educational environment for youth ages 6-16.

They will provide coaching and feedback to campers throughout skill session including land and on the water while being encouraging and positive.

We believe sailing is a lifetime sport and instructors should be lead by example.

Wages paid bi-weekly and calculated by the hour starting $10.00/hour, plus time& half for overtime. Most staff work 10 hours of overtime a week. This works out to $550/week or $5,500 for the summer season.

Assist indirectly supervising a group of 10-15 campers between ages 7-17. Working under the direction of an Instructor, the Counselor works to create a safe and fun educational environment.

  • Focus on camper engagement, helping them make friends, boosting confidence, and having fun!
  • Assist in a supporting role for teaching sailing curriculum, especially on land lessons, on the water coaching, and sailing in boats with campers

The Program Assistant will assist in various administrative tasks, provide program support for counselors, takes photos daily and post to the camp’s social media and other platforms.

Wages paid bi-weekly and calculated by the hour starting $7.50/hour, plus time& half for overtime. Most staff work 10 hours of overtime a week. This works out to $412.50/week or $4,125 for the summer season.

Requirements:

Basic requirements: All positions

  • Must enjoy working with children and being in the outdoors.
  • Must complete a background check and provide references.
  • Must have CPR and First Aid training from a nationally recognized agency before staff training. Staff are eligible for $35 bonus, paid at the end of the season, for presenting proof of certification by the first day of staff training.

Additional requirements: Camp Directors and Program Assistant ONLY

  • Must be proficient in computer skills and related word processing, data management, and internet computer software including social networking sites.

Additional requirements: Mountain Bike Camp Counselor ONLY

  • Must have experience Mountain Bike Riding; be familiar with the construction of a bicycle.

Additional requirements: Sailing Staff ONLY

  • Be very comfortable on the water and in a boat
  • Prefer some sailing experience
  • Prefer sailing certification prior to first day of camp for instructors.

Staff training for all positions will be June 1-4, 2021
